“Munay Toronto serves up salteñas, a classic Bolivian dish (similar to empanadas, but juicier) filled with either beef, chicken or mushroom, as well as coffee, tea and other baked goods.”
“Suresh: Salteñas may as well be one of Bolivia's national dishes, because its beloved and found throughout the country. From the Andes to the southern city of Tarija, where it is said to be originally from. Here is Munay's owner Tania Di Blasi:
"Salteñas is iconic food in Bolivia…The first time I ate them, I thought it was the most delicious thing I have ever eaten."
“There’s a new spot in Toronto that’s serving up Bolivian salteñas situated on St. Clair Ave. Tania Di Blasi opened up Munay on March 30 with the intent to introduce more Bolivian cuisine to the Toronto food scene.
“We have delicious gastronomy and we should share it with the rest of the world. What a better way to start than with one of our most beloved snacks and iconic food like our salteñas” says Di Blasi.
Salteñas, which are Bolivian-style empanadas, are stuffed with chicken, beef or mushroom and are baked rather than fried. The dough has a nice flaky crust, while the filling is piping hot, so just be warned while eating it. They also have other Bolivian favourites like sonso, a bread of yuca cassava and cheese, and a cuñape, which are little baked rolls of cheese. Di Blasi is also doing banana cake and dulce de leche for those with a sweet tooth.
Located at 881 St Clair Ave W, you won't be able to miss it with their bright lime green exterior. Munay's is primarily open for breakfast and lunch from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. most days except Sunday, where they are open 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Feel free to drop by and grab some comfort Bolivian food. They've been super busy with their drop-ins, so they aren't doing delivery at the moment but will be in the near future.”
